Stud Walls
A stud wall is an internal wall that isn’t structural.
Instead of supporting the weight of the house, it’s usually built with a timber or metal frame and covered with plasterboard.
Because stud walls aren’t load bearing, they’re often the walls that can be moved or removed when people want to change the layout of their home.
That’s why they come up a lot in renovation conversations.
For example, if someone wants to open up a room, create a new doorway, or adjust the size of a space, the first question is often whether the wall involved is a stud wall or a structural wall.
Stud walls are also commonly used when creating new layouts inside a house, like forming bedrooms, bathrooms, or utility rooms.
They’re essentially the walls that help shape the spaces inside your home without holding the building up.
