Renovation Translation: Planning Permission
Planning permission is approval from your local council to carry out certain types of building work.
Not all renovations require it, but larger changes or alterations that affect the exterior of your home often do.
Planning officers assess things like:• the impact on neighbours• the size and scale of the proposal• the appearance of the design• how it fits within the surrounding area
If permission is required and not obtained, you may be asked to reverse the work.
It’s separate from building control and focuses on how your project affects the wider environment, rather than how it’s built.
