This one's special to me. The building used to be an old hospital, long before it became a family home, and you can still feel that in its bones. (no pun intended!)

When a building's had a life like that, you don't strip it back and start from scratch. You work with what's there. So the brief for this snug was never about making it look new. It was about making it feel like it belonged to the people living in it now, while still holding onto its own story.

We started with a room which hadn't seen much attention for a while, but we knew it was a beautiful space waiting to emerge. Underneath it all, the proportions were gorgeous, so that's where the design began, not with fabric or paint, but with working out how best to bring the room back to life.

From there came the mood board: warm burgundy and rust tones, a botanical wallpaper with real depth, brass lighting and a beautifully restored original herringbone parquet floor that grounds the whole room.

What we have created now is a warm hug of a room that welcomes you in for a cup of tea. This design works because my clients love using the room, enjoying the intimate space, and because it respects and enhances what was already special about the building before we touched it.

That's the job, really. Taking something with real history and real character, and helping people see exactly what it could become, long before it looks like anything at all. Im so fortunate to have a team of amazingly skilled craftspeople who can bring my designs to life with amazing results.

A room can look perfectly lovely, but if the layout feels awkward, there is nowhere convenient to put things or it is difficult to keep tidy, that initial appeal soon starts to fade.

A beautiful scheme cannot make up for a space that functions badly.

Often, people assume they need more space or more storage. Sometimes they do, but quite often the real issue is how the space is being used.

Good interior design starts with understanding your everyday life. Where does everyone naturally gather? Where does clutter always build up? Which parts of the room feel awkward? What would make mornings, family life or having friends over feel easier?

Because your home should feel beautiful, but it also needs to work well enough that living in it feels easy.

One of the things I enjoy about coming home after being away is seeing my own house with slightly fresh eyes.

When we live somewhere every day, we become accustomed to the small things that work well and the areas that could be better. After a break, I often notice how the light falls at a certain time of day, how good it feels to return to familiar colours and objects, or how naturally we move back into our usual routines.

I also notice the less successful details. The place where bags are always left because there is nowhere more convenient to put them, the chair that interrupts the route through a room or the cupboard that does not quite hold what we need it to. These small frustrations are useful because they tell us something about how the home could support us better.

Time away can also clarify what we genuinely love. A hotel, restaurant or holiday house may introduce us to a colour combination, material or way of arranging a room, but the goal is not necessarily to recreate it. It is to understand what made us feel comfortable and consider how that feeling might translate into our own home.

Coming home should feel grounding. For me, that is one of the clearest measures of a successful interior.

We were lucky enough to go to RHS Badminton yesterday, the first one held at Badminton, and it was really good.

We got lots of inspiration for future garden projects. We saw some beautiful plants and flowers and kept hydrated thanks to pimms!

Its always so lovely to see all the colours of nature looking so beautiful together; nature creates the most perfect colour schemes.

There was lots of wildflowers with soft pastels paired with big bold bright yellow. The mix of textures, sizes and colours was really inspiring.

And it was great to have this new event on our doorstep.
But my lord it was hot!! 🥵

One of the things I love most about interior design is that, when it's done well, it almost disappears.

That might sound like a strange thing for a designer to say, but hear me out.

When I first visit a client's home, I'm not immediately thinking about colours or furniture. I'm looking for the little frustrations that have quietly become part of everyday life.

Where do the shoes end up?
Is there somewhere for school bags to live?
Does everyone naturally gather in one room while another sits empty?

These things might seem insignificant, but over time they create friction. They make a home feel harder to live in than it needs to.

Good design removes those frustrations so naturally that, eventually, you stop noticing they were ever there.

For me, that's the real measure of a successful home. Not that it looks perfect, but that it quietly supports the way you live every single day.

The thing clients most consistently underestimate: scale.

Not colour, not budget, not style. Scale.

A sofa that's six inches too small is the wrong sofa. A pendant hung eight inches too high looks like an afterthought. A rug that is too small doesn't ground the space.

None of these things announce themselves as problems. They just make a room feel slightly off — and you can't say why.

This is why most rooms that look right in a showroom don't look right in a house.

The showroom is set up to make the piece look good. Your room has walls, windows, other furniture, and light that moves through it differently at every hour.

Getting scale right is one of the quieter things I do. You probably won't notice, but you'll notice it feels right.

Specification & Sourcing Once the direction is confirmed, I handle all sourcing, specification, and coordination. Furniture, fabrics, lighting, trades. You're updated on what matters; protected from what doesn't.
